Team

We are a small band of disruptive innovators who are mission-driven and who strive to make a difference in the lives of people with psychiatric disabilities. We create tools, training, and technologies that support the recovery of people with mental illness. We have fun, we love what we do and we give it our all…

Deborah Anderson
Managing Partner

Getting involved with the consumer/survivor/ex-patient (c/s/x) movement was the beginning of my personal journey of recovery. I had received an MSW from Boston University, and I took a job as a community organizer with M-POWER, the new statewide c/s/x organization in Massachusetts. As an organizer, I helped M-POWER members develop political consciousness and the leadership skills which empowered them as they used direct action campaigns to demand changes in the mental health system. As they found their strength in numbers, I found what has been my passion ever since: helping people with psychiatric disabilities use their voices, individually and collectively, to work towards a mental health system where the reality of recovery is a possibility for everyone.

When Pat began creating CommonGround, we were surprised by the need to transform our little two-person consulting company into a "real" business. At first, I was concerned my work would no longer be as meaningful for me. But as it turns out, what we are doing now has the same objective I’ve been focused on for years: helping consumer/survivors discover and use their voices. CommonGround is a suite of tools that amplify people’s voices as they move into the driver’s seat of their recovery journeys.

As PDA’s managing partner, I serve as a bridge between our business operations and our development team’s work. I am thrilled to help carry our company’s dream of putting recovery tools in the hands of any and all consumers/survivors who want them.

Allison Stiles, MA, LPC
Director of Technology and Behavioral Health Integration

Hello! I am Allison Stiles and am pleased to be a member of the team here at Pat Deegan Ph.D. & Associates, LLC. I believe in Recovery, and helping to spread the word of Recovery is a dream come true.  My work with PDA harnesses my passion for helping others in a way that can make a real difference in people's lives – by bringing CommonGround to as many people in the mental health community as possible.

As the Director of Technology and Behavioral Health Integration, I work with our development team to create the tools and resources embedded within the CommonGround/RecoveryLibrary software and ensure that these tools are built upon a sound clinical base.  In addition, I work with our training department to help train and support folks who use CommonGround and RecoveryLibrary and am the company's Compliance Officer.

I have worked in the Mental Health field, since 2002, as a Residential Counselor, Intensive Case Manager, and Crisis Counselor. I hold a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, and the part-time work I do as a Licensed Professional Counselor feeds forward into my current work with PDA.

Missy Rufo, MS, CPRP
Training and Development Specialist

Hi all! My name is Missy Rufo and I am the Training & Development Specialist for Pat Deegan and Associates. In this role, I help new sites adopt CommonGround and RECOVERYlibrary, and provide existing sites with ongoing training and customer support. I also help the team develop new training materials and consult on new features for PDA technologies.

I bring the unique experience of being on both sides of the CommonGround table. I began using CommonGround in 2010 when the agency I worked at adopted CommonGround. During the implementation, I worked as a CommonGround Champion and served on the leadership team. I have also been certified as a CommonGround Specialist and have helped sites adopt it.

I have first-hand experience in understanding the challenges and the successes associated with using CommonGround and especially enjoy sharing my experiences with everyone I work with. I am passionate about recovery and training which drives me in the work we do here at PDA!

I have been working in the Mental Health field since 2004 and hold a Master’s Degree in Psychology. I am a Board Certified Music Therapist and a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner. Outside of my work, my Personal Medicine includes spending time with my family and friends and running (even though I’m slow)!

Jessica Dion
Office Manager

Hi, my name is Jessica Dion. I am the Office Manager for Pat Deegan, Ph.D. & Associates, LLC. I currently manage the online store, submitting and putting orders together as well as helping with any issues that may come about. I also help with customer support for our RecoveryLibrary site. Along with that I run multiple errands and help with different projects as they come along. I’m honored to be able to work for such an amazing business!

I met Deborah and Pat through the same barn their daughter, Chianne, rides at.  It’s been amazing to watch Chianne grow as a person and a rider; she has come such a long way and proved so much in the process. I have been riding horses since I was 11 years old. To say the least, it is one of the biggest parts of my life. I own a horse named Flip and he is the horse I have always dreamed of owning.

All in all, I was very lucky to get the opportunity to work for such great, inspirational people. I have already learned so much since I started here and I am looking forward to learning a lot more and being a part of a great team.

John O'Brien
Senior Software Developer

I am John and have been a Software Developer at PDA since May 2014. When Elliot, whom I had worked with at Canonical and have been friends with for many years, told me about PDA and CommonGround, it caught my attention as I could use my obsession to work on something that helps people.

I am a self-taught software developer who started as a teenager and have been doing it professionally for over 25 years. For me, programming and designing software is an obsession which provides a constant stream of things to learn and new challenges. I've worked on a variety of systems and enjoy not only designing software but also digging into the low-level complex bits which nobody ever sees.

I live in Merritt Island Florida and I enjoy all the fun things we can do near the coast and surrounded by rivers. Even so, my favorite sport is snow skiing.

Aldo Delgado
Software Developer

I am a Miami, Florida based software developer with 9 years commercial experience in full LAMP stack (Linux Apache MySql PHP). However, four of those last nine years I have been working on various Ruby on Rails applications. I have recently placed in the top three of the last four hackathons that I have attended this past year. I have a very good commercial experience in analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of web applications. Self-made and good communicator which helps me to work with people at all levels of the business.

Who am I? Well, that’s pretty much answered above, but here’s some more trivia about me. I was born in Miami, Florida. I’ve completely over-engineered a server for my own development needs. My favorite band is Green Day - brings back happy memories from my aggressive skating days. My favorite movie is Fight Club & 12 Monkey's - they are just utterly surprising. I once attempted to do a wheelie on my bike and ended up upside down in a bush without my t-shirt. I coach little league baseball. I hike and mountain bike in my free time - funny because Florida has no mountains.

To go into more detail I first got into the internet around 1993, when things were just starting to warm up. Back then, I was still a young kid and the internet was a simpler place: ICQ was the IM king and everyone had their own GeoCities website, splayed with low-resolution adverts and under construction animated gifs. Creativity was being redefined; rather than content being created mostly by publishers and professionals, it was being generated by everyone in their own rooms. Yes, this did result in what can only be called “hideous” examples of usability and travesties of design, but it exposed an entire generation to the promise of more input to come. I entered this particular gold-rush on FortuneCity and proceeded to build my very first website. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did know that Microsoft Word had a “web-page” template, so I started there. Looking back on it now that website was terrible, but it was my first taste of the technologies and terminologies underlying the internet.
