As an undergraduate student, I was able to take part in the CPMC course thanks to the opportunity given to me by my trainer, Professor Sookhee Jung. It was truly an honor and a wonderful opportunity to learn such a meaningful course while still in my undergraduate years. Even before studying the CPMC course, I had heard of Personal Medicine and had experiences exploring it together with others. During a practicum at a Clubhouse, I had the chance to discover Personal Medicine alongside a peer with lived experience of mental illness and a teacher who held the CPMC certification. Because of these experiences, I arrogantly thought that I could do this well enough even without completing the CPMC course. However, as I went through the CPMC training, I realized there was so much I hadn't known, and I learned a great deal about how, as a coach, I can help others discover their own Personal Medicine. The biggest thing I learned is that a coach doesn't find Personal Medicine for the person or teach it to them, but instead helps them uncover the Personal Medicine they already have, seen through the lens of their own inner wisdom. What I found most fascinating, and learned the most from, was that we don't run the Personal Medicine process through the eyes of an expert, but rather see through the person's own eyes, walk side-by-side with them, and go deeper together. I still have much to grow in, but by practicing steadily, I will become a CPMC who can help others discover their inner wisdom even better. I offer my deep gratitude and respect to my trainer, Professor Sookhee Jung, and to PDA for giving me this opportunity to learn.
