My recovery journey began in 2021, after years of battling mental health challenges, substance use disorder, and layers of trauma that had left me broken. I had lost myself - but God stepped in. When my face was in the dirt, He lifted me up, restored my hope, and gave me purpose. Through His grace, I became a Peer Recovery Specialist, first serving at a crisis center and now at an inpatient facility where I walk beside others who are facing some of their hardest days. I believe that everyone can recover and heal if they're willing to put in the work. My recovery is faith-based, and I've witnessed how God can turn pain into purpose and messes into messages of hope. Last year, I discovered Personal Medicine, a concept created by Dr. Pat Deegan that focuses on the healing power of the things that make life meaningful. I was determined to learn it, but when my employer declined to fund the training, I didn't give up. Pat Deegan held a lottery - and with the grace of God, I won! Through the course, I learned how to incorporate Personal Medicine into my own recovery and now help others discover theirs - the personal tools, passions, and practices that help them stay well and live with purpose. Personal Medicine is so important because it reminds us that recovery is not just about managing illness; it's about living fully, nurturing our spirit, and reclaiming joy through the things that make us come alive.
