We all have friends, relatives or acquaintances who have used antipsychotic medications and subsequently developed rapid weight gain, high cholesterol and/or type 2 diabetes. Given the high prevalence of those affected, I thought the internet would abound with patient education about which antipsychotics are more likely to cause metabolic syndrome.

I sure was wrong!

I'll write more about this gaping silence regarding patient education onantipsychotics and metabolic syndrome in a later post.  But for now, I created a 7 minute video that shares what we know about the question: Which antipsychotics have the highest risk for weight gain, high cholesterol and diabetes? Please note: the video describes risk in terms of comparing antipsychotic meds against each other.  I could not find data on absolute risk to report.

I recently went through Pat Deegan's Hearing Distressing Voices simulation experience. It was very informative and interesting. I was wondering if you could expand on why I heard a heart beat throughout the recording? Thanks.

As a voice hearer I experience hearing my heart beating in my ears at certain times due to the anguish the thoughts cause me. That may be why you hear it in the recording.
