Welcome Crossroads Peer Center

In August of 2010, Community Crossroads Peer Center in Chester County PA launched CommonGround.  Peers are using the CommonGround web application to prepare to meet with psychiatrists and to research information so they can advocate for themselves during appointments.  They held a big open house to celebrate the adoption of CommonGround and even had a "launch cake".

This is our first full implementation at a peer center and represents a new model for implementing CommonGround.  CommonGround was originally created to be used in psychiatric medication clinics.  But this energetic group of people are exploring how people can use CommonGround in a peer center. They run Personal Medicine and Power Statement groups on a regular basis.  People use the CommonGround Library to research a wide variety of concerns and interests.  Additionally, people complete the CommonGround Health Report and carry a paper copy of the report to their medication appointments.  Doctors and nurses review the reports and write a shared decision, instead of entering it on the computer.

Local county authorities and the managed care company are active supporters of CommonGround at the peer center.  Their goal is to have the mental health centers in the county adopt CommonGround over the next year.  The peer center implementation is therefore a first step within a broader strategy to empower peers to drive the adoption of CommonGround by medical staff.  We'll keep you posted on their progress!
